Empire or Drum Lampshade?
Empire for:
• Classic lamp bases
• Bedside lamps
• Vintage or traditional style
Drum for:
• Modern lamps
• Minimal interiors
• Geometrical patterns
There’s no right or wrong — it depends on your lamp and your space!
How about the fixing?
Pendant
For dining tables:
• Shade diameter ≈ ½ to ⅔ of table width
Examples:
• 120 cm table → 40–45 cm shade
• 180 cm table → two 30–40 cm shades
• Height above table: 70–80 cm
• For ceilings, generally 40 cm diameter works well
• For higher ceilings → larger shades – custom sizes
Lamp Base
General rule:
👉 Lampshade diameter ≈ 2/3 of lamp base height
Examples:
• 30 cm base → 20–25 cm shade
• 40 cm base → 25–30 cm shade
• Large living-room base → 30–40 cm shade
• Bedside lamps → smaller shades
• Living room lamps → larger shades for softer light
• Thin classic base → empire shade
• Modern geometric base → drum shade
